Retirement Plan Solutions - Winter 2017

Principal’s Letter
Retirement readiness is a timely topic as we move forward in 2017. In this issue we address three important considerations for retirement plan participants whether they are just starting to save for retirement, are mid-way through their working life or are rapidly approaching retirement.
In addition, making sure required plan documents are available to plan participants is key. In this issue of the ABG Newsletter we review the documents plan participants need ready access to, including the Summary Plan Description, the Summary of Material Modifications and the Summary Annual Report.
As plan sponsors adjust to the rulings under the Conflict of Interest Proposal brought forward by the Department of Labor (DOL), we also explore the Best Interest Contract Exemption (BIC Exemption). This exemption allows advisors to provide fiduciary advice but still continue to receive compensation as long as it is deemed to be reasonable.
Lastly, we update you on the latest ABG news, including Schwab recognition for one of our member firms then discuss important upcoming compliance deadlines in Tax Talk.
We hope you find this issue informative and useful as we move forward in 2017. As always, your ABG representative is available to answer any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Carol M. Cochran, CPA/PFS, CEBS, CMA, CMS, THRP, CFC
